The transport of animals is possible on Pegasus flights under certain conditions
What should a passenger know when planning a trip with pets or moving abroad with a cat or dog on a Pegasus Airlines flight? How to properly prepare and organize a trip by plane, what documents are needed, when and how much does it cost?
List of documents for transporting pets
Veterinary and health passport of a new sample. If your pet already has a passport, you should check if it is fit to travel abroad. All information must be completed in English, owner’s name, animal information and information on all treatments and vaccinations, as well as special stickers, signatures and seals must be included. Only veterinary clinics have the right to issue new passports.
Electronic identification chip
This chip is implanted in the animal between the shoulder blades. It contains a unique fifteen-digit code assigned to your animal.
Please note that the date of insertion of the chip must not be later than the last rabies vaccination. That is, the chip is first carried out, and then the vaccination. The chip code must be indicated on a sticker and stuck in the animal’s passport.
The result of a laboratory blood test for the presence of antibodies against the rabies virus. Only animals fitted with an electronic chip and pre-correctly vaccinated are authorized to take part in this study. Blood is collected one month after vaccination and no later than 1 year after vaccination.
The period during which the animal cannot leave the country after the date of the blood sample on departure is ninety days. In other words, the animal can leave the country by plane no earlier than three months after the blood sample was taken for this analysis. And this is subject to the presence of an up-to-date vaccination.
Traveling with an animal by plane according to the conditions of Pegasus
The final conditions of carriage are established by the air carrier. It is therefore advisable to study in detail the rules and conditions of carriage of animals of the airline with which you plan to travel.
Before booking tickets, be sure to contact the Pegasus airline operator by phone (call 088.822.812.12) to find out if the plane you are taking can accommodate animals on board and under what conditions. The call must be made 48 hours in advance.
Only clean and healthy animals are allowed to be transported. Usually small animals, on average up to seven to eight kilograms, can be carried in the cabin. Larger animals are transported in the baggage hold of the aircraft.
Transporting pets in the cabin
Container requirements for transporting an animal in the cabin are also established by the carrier and differ on some airlines. For example, the container in which your animal must travel must have the following measurements: 50cm x 32cm x 32cm.
According to IATA international standards, the container must meet a number of requirements, in particular, it must have enough space for the animal to stand, sit, turn around and lie down freely in a natural position.
The airline must be informed of the transport of an animal at least 48 hours before departure, but it is always advisable to report it as soon as possible, because the number of animals on board is limited. For example, no more than four containers with animals can be in the FlyPegasus airline cabin at the same time.
All pets must be three months or older to travel on FlyPGS aircraft.
Transport of animals in the hold
For transport in the baggage hold, the weight of the carrier with the animal must be 8 kg to 15 kg.
The carrier should have sufficient ventilation on three sides, it should be protected from pet leaking and leaking, convenient for loading and unloading. Puppies and kittens under two months old are not transported in the hold, as well as brachycephalic cats and dogs due to possible respiratory problems.
Animals transported in the holds of FlyPegasus aircraft are divided into two categories: AVIS (with a maximum weight of 15kg), and AVIB with a weight greater than 15kg.
Because the flight may be delayed, the animal must have enough food in its cage to avoid the risk of going hungry before the arrival of the flight.
Procedures to follow at the airport
You have to pass the veterinary check. It is worth arriving at the airport at least three hours before departure, as the procedure takes some time. The animal may be examined by the control and security agents, its documents will be checked. The process of checking an animal takes about twenty minutes, so it’s worth arriving early in case there’s a line.
How is the security check going?
Be prepared to take the animal out at least twice. The first time at the entrance to the airport, the second time at the security check. Therefore, take care of the leash and collar so that the animal does not run away.
If you have a dog, you’re in luck, we noticed other passengers walking freely with dogs on leashes around the airport and not forcing them to sit in the carrier all the time. You can also bring toys and treats with you.
But the cats and birds at the airport will most likely be as nervous as they come and won’t even show their noses at the carrier. They will also refuse to eat and drink due to stress, so you cannot water them.
After boarding
In an airplane, when taking off, landing and the signal, fasten your seat belts, the passenger with the animal must be located under the front seat. At other times, you may hug the cage, but releasing the animal and opening the cage is against the rules.
Do you have to buy a kennel or crate for large breed dog or does the airline rent or supply the crate or kennel
